To clarify morning and afternoon pickup/drop-off procedures:
• Parents/guardians MAY use the bus gate to drop students off in the mornings and to park to wait for afternoon pickups. Students who drive need to use the entrances on the student end of the parking lot.
• After today, all students will enter the front doors by the main office in the mornings—you may drop them off there. Doors will be unlocked at 7:30 a.m.—that is the earliest we have staff on duty to supervise. All students, K-12, will go to the gym if they arrive between 7:30 and 7:40. At the 7:40 bell, K-4 students will be escorted from the gym to their classrooms by their teachers, and if they are eating breakfast, Mr. Gregoire will escort them from the classrooms to the cafeteria then back to classrooms when they are all finished eating. Middle and high school students can go to breakfast from the gym at that time.
• Middle school and high school students who arrive after 7:40 can either go straight to breakfast, or, if they are not eating breakfast, to the gym. After they eat, they need to report to the gym. They will be released from there at the 8:00 a.m. bell to go to first hour.
• At the end of the day, if you are picking your student(s) up, please wait for the buses to exit the parking lot, then you may come get your student to walk them to your car if you need to, or they will be released to come to you if that is what you have agreed to with your student.
Again, thank you for bearing with me and the new principals during these first few days! First and foremost, we want students safe and supervised at every point throughout the day, and we sincerely appreciate your help as we work out the details these first days.
Dr. Spencer

Parents/Guardians,
It is great to have all of your students in the building this morning--they are all safely where they are supposed to be, and we will do our very best to take care of whatever needs they have as we go through the day. When they get home, if there were issues they did not share with us, please talk to the teacher or the principals and let them know--we can't fix what we don't know about, and we want their experience while they're here with us to be the best that we can make it.
I would like to apologize for the confusion with drop-off this morning. I am new here, and keeping your students safe will always be my first priority. I didn't realize it was customary in this district for elementary parents to walk students to class the first day, and we did not have supervision in place to accommodate that--entirely my fault. We will make plans for that for the first day next year and let parents know procedures to do so ahead of time. Again, my apologies.
Also, for those of you who are also new to this, please do not use the bus gate to drop off or pick up students in the mornings or afternoons. That is the gate on the far end that is furthest from the main doors. You can use either of the other parking lot entrances and drop them off by the lion.
Thank you for your understanding--I appreciate the grace this community and staff has given me as I learn "how we do things here." I love being part of the Tuscumbia family, and I look forward to getting to know your students this year!
Dr. Tina Spencer
Superintendent
